Christopher Thomas ‘Mickey’ Crowley, 85, former NCAA referee and coordinator

CALABASH — Christopher Thomas “Mickey” Crowley, 85, passed away Sunday May 5, 2019, at his residence.

He was born April 22, 1934, in Queens, New York, the son of the late Christopher and Ann Hammel Crowley and was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Fehling.

Mr. Crowley was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was an NCAA Basketball referee and coordinator for many years. He officiated the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship Game twice. He was an avid golfer.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Pat Crowley of the home; five children, Tim Crowley, and his wife, Lorraine, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Theresa Crowley, and his wife, Janet Capuano, of Calabash, Kathie Ylannes, and her husband, Guy, of Calabash, Joanne Gryski, and her husband, Marty, of Herndon, Virginia, and Christine Sales, and her husband, John, of Holly Springs; sister, Hannah Weinstein of Williston Park, New York; 11 grandchildren, Megan, Katelyn, Christopher, Zachary, Alexandra, Marty, Ben, Nick, Amanda, Luke and Danny; and four great-grandchildren, Jake, Madison, Maisie and Beau.

A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, May 8, at Brunswick Funeral Service, Shallotte Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, May 9, at St. Brendan Catholic Church. Burial will be held in Brunswick Memorial Gardens.
