WILMINGTON — An arrests has been made in response to a fatal shooting that took place downtown on Saturday, June 6, at 141 N. Front St.
According to the Wilmington Police Department, 29-year-old Trayquan Maleak Hasty of Castle Hayne has been charged with first-degree murder for the death of 23-year-old Emir Moore.
The WPD made the arrest, with the help of the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and the Pender County Sheriff’s Office. Hasty is being held in the New Hanover County Detention Center without bond and will make his first court appearance on Thursday.
Officers responded to the Front Street incident around 1:36 a.m. where Moore passed away at the scene as a result of a gunshot wound.
Moore was a class of 2021 graduate of New Hanover High School and played football. A GoFundMe has been posted to help his family pay for his funeral expenses; it notes Moore leaves behind his mother, father, sister, two brothers, and a niece. The fundraiser, posted on the afternoon of June 6, describes Moore as “not violent” and someone who “loved his family deeply and brought warmth to everyone around him.”
