LELAND — Leland has issued a burn ban, effective at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9, prohibiting all burning within 100 feet of an occupied structure.
The townwide ban comes on the heels of Brunswick County’s burn ban, which it issued on Monday, June 8. The North Carolina Forest Service classified the region as “moderate,” meaning there is increased risk of wildfires caused by accidents.

The burn ban will be in effect until further notice and conditions improve; however, this ban is separate from the permanent prohibition of burning for land clearing purposes, which the town implemented in October 2025.
Updates on the temporary burn ban will be provided on the town website.
