WILMINGTON — The Wilson Center at Cape Fear Community College has announced beloved ‘70s disco and funk powerhouse, KC and the Sunshine Band, is bringing their signature sound to the Wilson Center on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at 7 p.m.
KC and the Sunshine Band danced into the music scene nearly 50 years ago when Harry Wayne Casey, KC for short, developed a unique fusion of R&B and funk, with a hint of a Latin percussion groove, and released an impressive string of hits like “Get Down Tonight,” “That’s The Way (I Like It),” and “Shake Your Booty.” KC and the Sunshine Band are one of the most progressive bands of the 70s and have been credited with changing the sound of modern pop music.
In March of 2015, KC and the Sunshine Band released the album “Feeling You! The 60s.” The album was a tribute to the era that shaped KC and includes covers of songs by 60s legends like Bob Dylan, Ben E. King, The Righteous Brothers, Aaron Neville, and many more. Just like the rest of America during that time, KC was inspired by the music, political movements, and counterculture of the era, all of which led to his foundation of the dance revolution and to teaching the world how to boogie.
KC’s success in music has earned him an extensive list of accolades, including an American Music Award for Best R&B Artist in 1975, and a songwriting Grammy for Best R&B Song for “Where Is the Love,” recorded by Betty Wright. He also received a Grammy Award for Album of the Year and Producer of the Year in 1978 for his work on the “Saturday Night Fever” soundtrack. In 2001, KC was honored with the NARAS Governor’s Award, the highest honor given by a chapter of the Academy.
Tickets will be available online to Wilson Center Members on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2025, at 10 a.m. Tickets go on sale online and in person to the general public on Friday, Oct. 10, 2025, at 10 a.m.
