NEW HANOVER COUNTY — Three suspects have been charged in the murder of Adam Travon Smith, 23, and two had their first appearances in court on Wednesday, June 17.
Skyler Marie Flores, 18, Savannah May Sprouse, 19, and Kevon Sireal Stanley, 20, have been charged with one count of first degree murder, one count of attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and one count of felony conspiracy. They all are being held at New Hanover County Detention Center under no bond.
Flores and Sprouse went before Judge Richard Kern, who maintained no bond but will revisit the matter in a July 2 hearing. Kern also issued both defendants a court-appointed capital defender. If convicted, the judge explained Flores and Sprouse could face the death penalty or life without parole.
On June 18, Stanley will be read his charges and offered a capital defender.
The three suspects are accused of attempting to rob Smith for money at knifepoint in a parking lot, where he was stabbed to death.
According to WECT’s reporting, deputies found his body in the parking lot of Saltwater Marine at 7 a.m. on June 16. A civilian found Smith’s phone at Hanover Pines Nature Park, located at 6101 Carolina Beach Rd. The phone, as well as a reported blood trail in the park, aided in the sheriff’s office investigation, which remains underway.
