The Agenda: Meetings in local government this week

Numerous government meetings take place this week, including from the City of Wilmington and New Hanover County. (Port City Daily/Alexandria Sands Williams)

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Every Monday Port City Daily will share upcoming government and community meetings around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, it will be included, too.

Monday, Oct. 6

The Wilmington City Council will hold an agenda review a 8:30 a.m. in city hall, 929 N. Front St. Meetings are livestreamed here.

The New Hanover County Board of Commissioners will meet at 4 p.m. in the New Hanover County Courthouse. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Quasi-judicial hearing on development proposed for Rosa Parks Lane 

Southport Board of Alderman will meet at 9 a.m. at 223 E. Bay St. The agenda includes a public hearing for Osprey Landing phase 4 and annexation and update on Old City Hall/Courthouse. The meetings are streamed here. 

The Pender County Board of Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m., 805 South Walker Street. The agenda includes a public hearing and vote on the Imagine Pender 2050 Comprehensive Land Use Plan and approval of a Pender EMS & Fire’s retention and recruitment package due to high turnover stemming from the emergency services merger. The meeting will livestream here

The Brunswick County Board of Commissioners will meet at 3 p.m., 30 Government Center Drive in Bolivia. The agenda includes potential changes to the stormwater ordinance and acceptance of a notice of a grant award from the U.S. Economic Development Administration in the amount of $6.7 million for the Mid-Atlantic Industrial Rail Park Water Tank Project. Tuesday, Oct. 7

The Wilmington City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. in city hall, 929 N. Front St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Ordinance Adding “Sec. 6-10. Certain Actions Prohibited on City Property” to Chapter 6, Article I of the Wilmington City Code. Read PCD coverage here.
  • Resolution to Authorize City Staff to Pursue the Acquisition of Real Property Suitable for the Development of a New Park and Recreation Amenities. Read PCD coverage here.

The New Hanover County Board of Education will meet at 5 p.m. in the Board of Education Center, 1805 S. 13th St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Discipline Data

The Wilmington Housing Authority Board of Commissioners will meet at 4 p.m. at Rankin Terrace, 415 N. 12th St.

The Surf City Town Council will meet at 4:30 p.m. in the Surf City Municipal Complex. The agenda includes amendments to the solid waste ordinance and special events ordinance. After the meeting, the council will have a public informational session regarding the 30% tax increase. The meeting will livestream here.

New Hanover County Board of Elections will meet on Oct. 7, at 5 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room at the Board of Elections Office, 226 Government Center Dr. The meeting is held to review absentee ballot applications and discuss other election-related matters as needed. Limited in-person seating will be available. It can be streamed here.

Pender County Board of Elections will meet at 6 p.m. at 305 Walker St. to discuss absentee ballots.

Brunswick County Board of Elections will meet at 4 p.m. at Commissioners’ Chambers, 30 Government Center Dr NE, to discuss absentee ballots.

Town of Leland Board of Adjustment will meet at 6 p.m. at Fire Station 11. The agenda includes a quasi-judicial hearing for a variance request for a  single-family detached dwelling at 133 Baldwin Drive.

The Brunswick County Board of Education will meet at 6 p.m. in the Cape Fear Room of Center of Applied Sciences and Technology, 1109 Old Ocean Highway. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

Wednesday, Oct. 8

The Topsail Island Board of Commissioners will meet at 5:15 p.m. in the Topsail Beach Town Hall. The agenda includes discussion on an ordinance amendment concerning horses on the beach strand and the volunteer firefighter charter. The meeting will livestream here.

Cape Fear Public Utility Authority Board will meet at 9 a.m. at 230 Government Center Dr. The agenda includes:

  • ​​$540,750 construction contract with Atlantic Construction and Development, Inc. for Water Valve Replacement #3
  • Resolution to accept NCDEQ Grant Funding for Water Main Extensions for the Bayshore Phase A Water Extension Project
  • Ordinance appropriating Emerging Contaminants in Small or Disadvantaged Communities Grant (ECSDC) for Bayshore Phase A – Water Extensions

Thursday, Oct. 9

The Town of Navassa Planning Board meets at 6 p.m. at 338 Main St. An agenda was not posted by press.

The Wilmington Historic Preservation Commission will meet at 5:30 p.m. in city hall, 929 N. Front St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • 208 Market Street: New three-story, mixed-use building
  • 515 South 3rd Street: Subdividing lot, constructing access road, and constructing a small new house
  • 312 South 6th Street: Constructing an accessory dwelling unit
