Sabra Jane Nunalee, 93

Sabra Jane Nunalee (Quinn McGowen Funeral Home)

WILMINGTON — Sabra Jane Nunalee, age 93, departed this life Sunday, October 5, 2025 in Wilmington, NC.

She was born September 18, 1932 in Currie, NC, the daughter of the late Thomas H. Nunalee, Jr. and Louise Powers Nunalee.

After attending Long Creek Grady School and East Carolina College, Sabra’s career in education included thirty-three years of teaching high school English and French in Edenton, Bladenboro, and Wilmington. She was a member of Moore’s Creek Baptist Church in Currie and also attended Northside Baptist Church in Wilmington, where her Sunday School class was a very important part of her life.

Her strong faith and the love of her family carried her through the difficult times. Although her marriage to John D. Everett, her high school sweetheart, did not last, they remained devoted to each other throughout their lives.

An avid reader all her life, Sabra had a special love for poetry, which she inherited from her mother. She enjoyed writing poems for her high school newspaper and graduation exercises, and in her later years poems paying tribute to special people and events in her life. She also loved Dance in all its forms, which began with her dance classes at Long Creek School.

Special times later in life included a trip to France and Switzerland, enjoyable hours spent with her Red Hat group, a six-year Bible study, and times of celebration with family and friends.

Sabra is survived by her daughter, Julie Everett Maultsby (Ted); her son, David Kent Everett (Susan); her grandson, Cameron Maultsby; her brothers, Kenneth Nolan Nunalee (Frances), and James Jay Nunalee; her sister-in-law, Linda Nunalee; and several delightful nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death and remembered with love are her brother, Thomas Hervey Nunalee III; her sisters-in-law, Phyllis Nunalee, Eleanor Stephens, and Patricia Tatum; and her forever friend Betty Bell Johnston.

A graveside service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, October 10, 2025 at Moore’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Currie, NC.

Shared memories and condolences may be sent to the family here.
