WILMINGTON — Janetta Song Stephenson (Aitken), born November 1, 1981, passed away after a brave, decades-long battle with mental illness on April 17, 2024. Jane was a loving mother, sister, daughter, and friend, whose kindness, talent, beauty, and intelligence touched the lives of all who knew her.
Jane was the proud and dedicated mother to her two beloved sons, Liam Sage, 18, and Logan Howard, 13. Despite her trials, Jane’s love for her boys remained her constant beacon of hope. She maintained a strong bond with her ex-husband, Samme, as they co-parented their sons with love and mutual respect.
Jane’s mother, Judy Justice, was a pillar of strength, tirelessly giving her support and love in an effort to help Jane navigate the turbulent waters of mental illness, a battle her father also faced years ago.
Jane was a woman of many passions. Her love for music was expressed through her guitar-playing, her love for the ocean was evident in her surfing, and her zest for life was most vibrantly displayed through dance.
A celebration of Jane’s life will be held at a later date. Please check back for more information. In accordance with Jane’s love for water, her final journey will be cared for by Tranquility Cremation by Aquamation.
We remember Jane not for her struggles, but for her enduring spirit, her love for her family, and her unyielding hope. She will be deeply missed and forever in our hearts. Rest in peace, dear Jane.
