WILMINGTON — Jane McMillan Hendrix McGann, 74, passed away peacefully at Autumn Care of Myrtle Grove on January 8 2026 in Wilmington, NC after battling cancer and kidney failure.

Jane was born June 1 1951 to Thomas K Hendrix and Eleanor McMillan Hendrix in Decatur, IL. She is survived by her brother Thomas Hendrix Jr. and stepchildren, Patricia, Janet, John, Susan, Cheryl and Karen.

Jane graduated with her bachelors from Drake University and received her MBA from Webster University. She worked 35 years in the waterworks/pipe industry.

Jane married John L.(Jack) McGann on April 16 1983. Prior to Jack’s passing in 2020, Jane and Jack lived a happy active marriage, sharing hobbies, travel, and sporting activities. They enjoyed many adventures, including golf, scuba, fishing, hunting, and boating. They had especially wonderful times in Denali and Costa Rica. Jane continued her travel after Jack’s passing (the Galapagos) creating new friendships wherever she went.

Jane acquired many hobbies and joined numerous organizations foremost the Cape Fear Wilmington Chapter of the LPGA Amateurs where she served as Charter member, President and Chair of many committees. In addition, she was a leader in the Beau Rivage Ladies Golf Association. Always tireless in her welcoming and encouraging new golfers, she was instrumental in growing and supporting the game for women in Wilmington. She loved her many golf friends and considered them her family. They will remember Jane for her warm smiles and famous Jello shots.

Jane was also an enthusiastic member of the Wilmington Area Wooodturners Association and leaves many friends there.

She was very engaged with the Grief Support Group at St. James Episcopal after losing Jack and developed deep relationships and coping skills. Her outlook and advice was to “Find Joy everyday”.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Mt. Lebanon Chapel at Airlie Gardens, Wilmington, NC, at 11 am February 2 2026.

Per her request, Internment will be in the spring April 9 2026 10:30 am Mt. Lebanon Chapel Memorial Garden when “the flowers are in full bloom” .
