WILMINGTON — Russell Stanley Mollath, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on the morning of December 19, 2023, at his home in Wilmington, North Carolina. He was born on January 5, 1948, in Oakland, California. Russell was 75 years old at the time of his passing.

Russell led a remarkable life, filled with love for his family, passion for all sports especially NASCAR and baseball, and a dedication to coaching and umpiring for little league and softball. He cherished the moments spent with his family, cheering for his favorite teams, and being the commissioner of many fantasy sports leagues.

Russell proudly served in the Navy on the USS Will Rogers (SSBN-659) submarine. His dedication and selfless commitment to upholding the values of honor, courage, and duty were an inspiration to all who were fortunate enough to serve alongside him. Later, he received a degree in Accounting from Bloomsburg University in Bloomsburg, PA.

Russell was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas “Hardy” Mollath and Marlyce (Hansen) Paragary, as well as his brother, Brad. He leaves behind a loving family, including his devoted wife, Rachael (Young) Mollath; his children, Kyle (and wife Jamie) Sharpe, Kimberly (and husband Kurt) Furlong, Kellie (and husband Jason) Kane, Kori (and husband Paul) Gagne, and Kristen (and husband Patrick) Martin; and 11 cherished grandchildren – Brady, Dylan, Darien, Kelsten, Noah, Riley, Camryn, Pyper, Tre, Cora and Clyde.

The Mollath family has planned a small private gathering to celebrate Russell’s life, which will take place later in the Spring in Pennsylvania. During this time, they will reflect upon the precious memories and honor the incredible person Russell was to all who knew him.

Russell Stanley Mollath will forever be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his enthusiasm for sports, and his deep love of his country. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
