NEW HANOVER COUNTY — The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is reviewing a New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office deputy-involved shooting which occurred Thursday morning.
NHCSO responded to a 9-1-1 call about a suspicious vehicle on Bozeman Lane.
In a statement released by the sheriff’s office, a spokesperson said deputies approached the vehicle and after a confrontation the suspect attempted to flee. During the incident, a deputy was nearly struck by the car. A deputy fired at the vehicle.
The suspect fled the scene traveling on Carolina Beach Road.
Deputies later learned an individual — now identified as the suspect — had arrived at New Hanover Regional Medical Center with gunshot wounds. They have since been taken into custody.
The investigation regarding the incident is ongoing. Additionally, after being requested by NHCSO, the North Carolina SBI is looking into the shooting. A case file will be sent to the New Hanover District Attorney when the review is complete.
