Man dies during traffic stop

WILMINGTON — Wilmington Police Department is investigating the death that occurred at a traffic stop around 10:20 p.m. on Wednesday in the 2200 block of Wrightsville Avenue.

Officers observed a vehicle with an expired registration, conducted a stop and located what they suspect to be cocaine inside of the vehicle.

As the investigation was happening, the man experienced a medical emergency and EMS responded and provided treatment for about 45 minutes. He was pronounced deceased at the scene and his identity is being withheld at this time.
