Lenard Clifton Hammond (Coastal Cremations and Funeral Care)

LELAND — Dr. Lenard Clifton Hammond, of Leland, NC, died on September 25, 2026.

He was the son of Lenard and Nancy Hawkins Hammond, and the brother of Jerry Wayne and Charles Henry (Hank) Hammond and the father of James Clifton Hammond, Rebecca Lynn Glenn (Mrs. Daniel) and Daniel Clifton Hammond, with many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and a great-grandchild. He is also survived by his spouse, Phyllis Tippett Hammond of the home.

After graduating from UNC-Charlotte with an Associates and Bachelor’s degree in math and science, he worked for Giegy Chemical company before owning his own textile plant.

After suffering from an injury, he found relief from a Chiropractor. This formed his decision to go to Palmer College of Chiropractic, Davenport, IA. After graduating third in his class, he was led back to the North Carolina coast. He was an avid fisherman and loved the beautiful blue waters of the Gulf Stream and especially catching King Mackerel as well as enjoying the many water sports.

Dr. Hammond, Chiropractor, practiced for 40 years in Southport, NC with the assistance of Helene Sarrie Sellers for 37 of those years. Her loyalty will always be remembered. Dr. Hammond loved using his knowledge of the Cox technique to serve a great number of patients. He was always willing to learn new and current skills to improve the lives of his many patients, friends and family.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
