NEW HANOVER COUNTY — A patrol deputy for the New Hanover Sheriff’s Office made an arrest for multiple drug and trafficking charges last week after pulling over a driver on suspicion of impairment.
A press release from the sheriff’s office said 50-year-old Joseph Edward Cumbee Jr. was stopped on Mar. 12 near the intersection of Market Street and Marsh Oaks. While investigating the driver, the deputy saw narcotics in plain view, prompting a search of the vehicle.
The officer found:
- 31 grams of methamphetamine
- 1 gram of Molly
- 8 MDMA (ecstasy)
- 1 gram of marijuana
Requested to the scene were vice and narcotics detectives, who charged Cumbee with:
- Trafficking by possession
- Trafficking by transport
- Possession of schedule I
- Possession of schedule IV
- Possession of marijuana
- Possession of marijuana paraphernalia
- DWI
Cumbee received a $80,000 secure bond for drug charges and a $1,000 unsecured bond for a DWI charge.
