WILMINGTON — A two-week challenge is focused on promoting alternative transportation options in the region, including carpooling, bicycling, walking, teleworking and public transit.
Go Coast, a program of the Wilmington Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, is hosting the 2026 Commuter Challenge, Oct. 5-18.
Participants will also be able to win prizes when the replace drive-alone trips with a different way to travel about town. Trips must tracked and individuals with the most miles and trips tracked will win tickets, gift cards, and experiences from local businesses and attractions, including Thalian Hall, Cameron Art Museum, Flaming Amy’s, Wilmington Railroad Museum, Wilmington Water Tours, and Airlie Gardens.
There also will be team prizes for tracking the most trips per capita and two social media prizes for participants who share their Commuter Challenge experience. All prizes are randomly chosen.
Team registration is open now here and ndividual participants can begin tracking eligible trips on Oct. 5.
