The Agenda: Local government meetings this week

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Every Monday Port City Daily will share upcoming government and community meetings around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, it will be included, too.

Tuesday, Jan. 20

The Wilmington City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. in the Skyline Center, 929 N. Front St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Resolution Authorizing and Adopting the City of Wilmington’s 2026 State and Federal Legislative Agenda
  • Resolution Requesting Further Review of the Wilmington Harbor 403 Project

The New Hanover County Board of Commissioners will meet at 4 p.m. in the NHC Courthouse, 24 N. Third St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Special use permit: Big Apple RV Park

The Wrightsville Beach Board of Aldermen will be hosting a budget planning session at 9 a.m. in the Town Hall conference room.

The Pender County Board of Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m., 15060, Highway 17 in Hampstead. The agenda includes consideration of approval of a resolution to draft new commissioner voting district maps, which would not come into effect until 2028. Also, consideration of joining the Senior Community Service Employment Program as a host agency. The meeting will livestream here.

The Brunswick County Board of Commissioners will hold a countywide goals workshop at 9 a.m. at 30 Government Center Dr. Each department will present its goals and objectives for the FY2027 budget and there will be a priorities discussion.

The Brunswick County Board of Commissioners will hold its regular meeting at 6 p.m., 30 Government Center Drive in Bolivia. The agenda includes a review of a draft revised fire services contract. Also, a public hearing and consideration of updating the Stormwater Quality Management and Discharge Control Ordinance and the Stormwater Management Manual to add the 100-year, 24-hour design storm control as a requirement. The State Board of Elections will hold a remote meeting at 11:30 a.m. to hear a candidate challenge. It can be streamed here (password: NCSBE).

The Oak Island Town Council will be hosting a regular meeting at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers. The agenda includes two public hearings, one on commercial code repair UDO amendments and the other on accessory building structures and food trucks. The agenda also includes budget ordinances for the pickleball court improvements and safety, Oak Island Pier repair contract award, a Dolphin Drive easement, and a lease amendment with Brunswick Baseball LLC. The council will also be revisiting the right-of-ways and abatement period and will be discussing an alley closure. Streaming is available here and here.

The Brunswick County Board of Education will hold committee meetings beginning at 9 a.m. in the Brunswick County Schools Administrative Offices, 35 Referendum Drive. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes: 

  •  Strategic Plan Monitoring Report Presentation
  • Human Capital Review: 2025-2026 Mid-Year Report

Thursday, Jan. 22

The North Carolina State Ports Authority Board of Directors will meet in person at 9 a.m. in the Board Room of the North Carolina Maritime Building, 2202 Burnett Blvd. Members of the public may join in person; an agenda was not posted by press.

The Wave Transit board meets at 12:30pm at Forden Station, 505 Cando St. A public comment period limited to 5 minutes per person will be offered at the meeting. The agenda includes updates from directors, compliance reports and proposed contract amendment, extending term from June 30, 2026 to June 30, 2027, with Transdev North America, Inc., for Transit Management Services.

Brunswick Regional Water and Sewer H2GO will meet at 146 Gregory Road in Belville at 5 p.m. The agenda includes various director reports, H2GO mission and core values and more.

CFPUA Sustainability Committee meets at 2 p.m. at 235 Government Dr. in the Jordan Conference Room; see the agenda here. Following at 3 p.m., the Long Range Committee meets and will discussion inflation and updates to the capital improvement plan; see the agenda here.
