New principal announced for Heide Trask

PENDER COUNTY — A new principal has been hired to lead Heide Trask High School in Pender County next school year.

Brian Allen, who was the Burgaw Middle School principal since June 2023, will be stepping into the shoes of Tony Hudson. Hudson is going to serve as principal of Hoggard High School in Wilmington.

Before his role at Burgaw Middle, Allen was the founding principal of Surf City Elementary School, having opened in the 2018-2019 school year. Allen, who started his career as a third- and fourth-grade teacher, also served as assistant principal at Topsail Annandale Elementary School.

“Pender County Schools has been my professional home and I am excited for the opportunity to join the Heide Trask High School community,” Allen said in a release. “I look forward to building relationships with students, staff, families and the Titan community as we work together to support student success.”

Allen is a Wilmington native who also attended UNCW and graduated with both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Currently, he pursuing his doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from UNCW, with completion scheduled for May 2027.

Allen is married and enjoys time spent on the water — including the beach, the boat and by the pool.
