His arrest follows a five-day investigation that began last Sunday around 2 a.m. Police were called to the 100 block of North Fourth Street, due to multiple fights escalating in the area. During the incident, 21-year-old  Lance Corporal Daniel Montano was stabbed in the neck and perished. Another person sustained injuries, but is recovering according to Police Chief Ryan Zuidema.

Spencer has been arrested before in New Hanover County on drug charges and was sentenced as a habitual felon in 2015. His first appearance in court for the fatal stabbing is Monday, April 13.

The arrest is also the second this week due to a stabbing incident in downtown Wilmington. Minutes after police responded to Montano last Sunday morning, they were called a block over where a 22-year-old woman sustained injuries from another stabbing.

The two incidents were not linked, according to the police chief. Law enforcement arrested 20-year-old Wilmingtonian Jazya Muldrow-Green, for assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
