WILMINGTON — One man faces multiple charges after a public disturbance was reported regarding an armed individual near a childcare center on Wednesday, Feb. 18.

Around 9 a.m., Wilmington Police Department were called to the 3000 block of Market Street. Witnesses reported 49-year-old Adrian Tribble entered a childcare center with a knife and tampered with nearby vehicles parked outside after staff were able to escort him out of the learning center.

Officers encountered Tribble shortly thereafter on nearby Montgomery Avenue. In an attempt to make contact, the WPD said Tribble was combative and would not allow officers to detain him. While attempting to bring him into custody, Tribble allegedly “made a stabbing motion” with his knife toward law enforcement; the officer was able to disarm the suspect without further incident.

Tribble was transported to Novant Health NHRMC by EMS for medical evaluation and treatment and faces several charges:

  • Resist, Delay, and Obstruct Public Officers
  • Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Law Enforcement Officer
  • Tampering with a Motor Vehicle

He is currently being held without bond at the NHSO Detention Center and the investigation is ongoing.
