The Agenda: Meetings in local government

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Every Monday Port City Daily will share upcoming government and community meetings around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, it will be included, too.

Monday, June 15

The Wilmington City Council will hold an agenda review at 8:30 a.m. in the Skyline Center, 929 N. Front St. Meetings are livestreamed here.

The New Hanover County Board of Commissioners will meet at 9 a.m. in the NHC Courthouse, 24 N. Third St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda can be viewed here.

The Kure Beach Town Council will host a special meeting at 12 p.m. in Council Chambers to discuss a closed session item.

The Pender County Board of County Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m. in the Pender County Public Assembly Room, 805 S. Walker St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Public hearing on the FY26-27 budget; read recent PCD coverage here
  • Approval of BOA and change order contract amendment for the second floor mezzanine railing in the new law enforcement center project in the amount of $556,371.00
  • Approval of the emergency services and transfer of assets agreement
  • Approval of the FY 26-27 budget ordinance and fee schedule
  • Approve payoff of Pender EMS & fire debts totaling $10,143,102 from the general fund balance

The Brunswick County Board of Commissioners will host a regular meeting in Commissioners Chambers at 6 p.m. Meetings can be watched here and the agenda includes:

  • A presentation on the county’s Emergency Management Damage Assessment process
  • A public hearing on the Maco Road project/development agreement; see Port City Daily’s reporting here
  • Continued public hearing on the budget

The Kure Beach Town Council will host a regular meeting at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers. The agenda includes:

  • Adoption of the budget; read about the budget here
  • The 2026 Emergency Plan

  • 30th Anniversary of Hurricane Fran discussion
  • Retirement of Finance Officer Arlen Copenhaver

Tuesday, June 16

The Wilmington City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. in the Skyline Center, 929 N. Front St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Ordinance Adopting the Greater Downtown Plan as an Amendment to the Create Wilmington Comprehensive Plan. Read PCD’s coverage here.
  • Ordinance Making Appropriations to the General Fund, Grant Projects, Financial Plans, Enterprise Fund, Debt Service Fund, Special Tax District, and Convention Center for the Fiscal Year Beginning July 1, 2026. Read PCD’s coverage here.

The North Topsail Beach Inlet Sound Advisory Committee will meet at 10:30 a.m. in Town Hall, 2008 Loggerhead Court. Meetings can be livestreamed here. An agenda was not posted by press.

New Hanover County Board of Elections will meet at 5:30 p.m. in the Board Room at the Board of Elections Office at 226 Government Center Drive to conduct regular business and discuss election-related matters. The Oak Island Town Council will host a special meeting in Council Chambers at 5 p.m. to discuss a closed session item.

North Carolina State Ports Authority Finance Committee will meet at 3 p.m. in the Board Room of the North Carolina Maritime Building located, 2202 Burnett Boulevard. Members of the public may join in person.

Wednesday, June 17

The Pender County Board of Adjustment will meet at 9:00 a.m. in the Administration Building, 805 South Walker Street. An agenda was not posted by press.

The Oak Island Town Council will host a special meeting in Council Chambers at 1 p.m. to discuss a closed session item.

The Topsail Beach Town Board will meet at 3:00 p.m. in Town Hall, 820 S. Anderson Blvd. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Vote on Article VI. Employee Benefits of the Personnel Policy
  • Vote on Public Facility Repairs  
  • Vote on Traffic Control MOU with Surf City 

Southport Board of Aldermen will host a special meeting in Indian Trail Meeting Hall at 1 p.m. to discuss the budget. Meetings can be livestreamed here.

Thursday, June 18

The Wilmington Board of Adjustment will meet at 1 p.m. in the Skyline Center, 929 N. Front St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • 2722 Shandy Lane: Variance to City Code Section 18-199 to allow an accessory building in front of a principal building.
  • 508 S. 22nd Street: Appeal of zoning interpretation of what constitutes outdoor amplified sound.

Friday, June 19

The Brunswick Community College Board of Trustees will have a retreat at 9 a.m. in the Douglas Terhune Center for Culinary Arts, 1010 Evangeline Drive, followed by a meeting in its executive boardroom, 50 College Road NE, at 2 p.m.
