Throughout November, every school in the district will accept non-perishable food items to go directly to Pender County families. The initiative aims to help alleviate food insecurity as SNAP benefits have been delayed and to make a difference this holiday season.
“This food drive is about more than filling bins, it’s about filling hearts,” Superintendent Brad Breedlove said in a press release. “It’s a reminder that even small acts of generosity add up to something powerful when we come together.”
Requested items include:
- Cereal, canned tuna, canned chicken, peanut butter, and condiments.
- The district is also collecting individually packaged snacks such as granola bars, Pop-Tarts, tuna packets, beef jerky, crackers, ramen noodles, pudding cups, Jell-O cups, fruit cups, Rice Krispie treats, and Cheez-Its.
There will be collection bins set up at all schools for families to drop off items.
