The Agenda: Local government meetings this week

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Every Monday Port City Daily will share upcoming government and community meetings around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, it will be included, too.

Monday, Nov. 3

The Wilmington City Council will hold an agenda review at 8:30 a.m. in city hall, 929 N. Front St. Meetings are livestreamed here

The New Hanover County Board of Commissioners will meet at 4 p.m. in the NHC Courthouse, 24 N. Third St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Hearing on a revocation of solid waste franchise 
  • Presentation of the New Hanover County Water Quality Monitoring Program

The Carolina Beach Board of Adjustment will meet at 6 p.m. at Council Chambers on 1121 N. Lake Park Boulevard. The agenda includes consideration of a variance for a front lawn. The meeting can be watched here.

The Southport Board of Alderman will host a regular meeting at 9 a.m. at their community building at 223 E. Bay Street. The agenda will include:

  • Shoreline stabilization project
  • Proposed UDO text amendments
  • Proposal of establishment of a public comment policy by Alderman Carroll

The Pender County Board of Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m., 805 S. Walker Street in Burgaw. The agenda includes a presentation regarding the process for a development moratorium and NC Fire Chief Consulting, the consultants assisting with the emergency services merger, will present on the process and timeline for the ongoing merger. The meeting will livestream here

The Brunswick County Board of Commissioners will meet at 3 p.m., 30 Government Center Drive. The agenda includes consideration of a resolution demanding more local citizen input into the final route decision for the proposed Carolina Bays Parkway project. Also, an update on the new Health and Human Safety/Emergency Operations Center design build project. The meeting will be uploaded here.

New Hanover Board of Elections will meet three times this week, including on Monday, Nov. 3, at 5 p.m., in the Multipurpose at the Board of Elections Office, 226 Government Center Dr., to review absentee ballot applications and discuss other election-related matters as needed. Limited in-person seating will be available. To participate telephonically, dial 1-336-218-205, Conference ID 909 959 423 followed by pound (#). This meeting will be available for public viewing via Microsoft Teams  here. 

Brunswick County Board of Elections meets Monday, Nov. 3, at 4 p.m., for an absentee-ballot meeting at the Board of Elections Office, 75 Stamp Act Dr. NE, Building H, in Bolivia. Members of the public may attend meetings in-person or virtually via live stream here.

Pender County Board of Elections will meet for an absentee meeting at 6 p.m. at 305 S. Walker St. The public is welcome to attend.

Tuesday, Nov. 4

The Leland Board of Adjustment will meet Tuesday, Nov. 4 at 6 p.m. at Leland Fire Station 51. The agenda includes:

  • Approving the 2026 Board of Adjustment schedule
  • Discussing a draft of Board of Adjustment Rules of Procedure

Wednesday, Nov. 5

The New Hanover County Board of Education will meet at 5 p.m. in the Board of Education Center, 1805 S. 13th St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • NHCS Transportation Update
  • Pre-K Funding
  • CSI Grant
  • Board of Education Scholarship

The Wilmington City Council has moved its normal Tuesday meeting to Wednesday, due to the municipal elections. The council will meet at 6:30 p.m. in city hall, 929 N. Front St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Resolution Establishing the City of Wilmington Housing Advisory Committee and Bylaws
  • Resolution Authorizing the City Manager to Apply for a Bureau of Justice Assistance FY25 Body-Worn Camera Policy and Implementation Program Grant in the Amount of $339,367 with a Required Local Match of $169,684

The Belville Planning Board will meet at 6 p.m. at the Brunswick Community College Leland Center, 2045 Enterprise Blvd. 

The Surf City Town Council will meet at 4:30 p.m. in the Surf City Municipal Center. An agenda was not posted by press. The meeting will be uploaded here.

Cape Fear Public Utility Authority Finance Committee will meet at 9 a.m. in the Jordan Conference Room, 235 Government Center Dr. The public is welcome to attend. The agenda includes:

  • $3.9M contract with Carbon-Activated Corporation for granular activated carbon regeneration at the Sweeney Water Treatment Plant.
  • $1.9M design-build services with T.A. Loving for the drinking water main extensions in NHC project 

Cape Fear Public Utility Authority Executive Committee will meet at 10 a.m. in the Jordan Conference Room at 235 Government Center Dr. The agenda includes the ED and attorney reports. The public is welcome to attend.

The Brunswick County Board of Education will meet at 6 p.m. in the Cape Fear Room of the Center of Applied Sciences and Technology,, 1109 Old Ocean Highway. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Purchase of four classroom modulars
  • Schematic design request 

Thursday, Nov. 6

Pender County Board of Elections will have a sample audit meeting at 11 a.m., followed by a 6 p.m. absentee and provisional ballot meeting at 305 S. Walker St. The public is welcome to attend.

The New Hanover County Planning Board will meet at 6 p.m. in the NHC Courthouse, 24 N. Third St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Special Use Permit — (S25-06 – Standard Technologies) — Request by Max Valentine and Brian Thompson with Standard Technologies, applicants, on behalf of H. Phillip Berman, Jr. and Jim Teachey, property owners, for the use of Other Fabricated Metal Product Manufacturing in an I-1, Light Industrial district on approximately 34.7 acres located at 4901 Las Tortugas Drive.

Friday, Nov. 7

The North Topsail Board of Alderman will meet at 11 a.m. at the Town Hall, 2008 Loggerhead Court. The agenda includes consideration of a budget increase and a contract change for a consulting firm to continue work on a required environmental study for their Inlet Management Plan.
