From libraries to landfills, holiday closures starting as early as today

SOUTHEAST N.C. — The holidays are in full swing, which, of course, means it’s time for some governmental closures.

From water payments to trash collection, this week will have plenty of changes; keep track of them here.

New Hanover County

New Hanover County

All New Hanover County offices are closed Tuesday, Dec. 24 through Thursday, Dec. 26 for Christmas.

The county facilities and attractions below have an alternate closing schedule:

  • Airlie Gardens: closed Dec. 24 and 25; will reopen at 9 a.m. on Dec. 26
  • Arboretum: gates closing at 5 p.m. on Dec. 24 and open on Dec. 25
  • Cape Fear Museum: closed Dec. 23 — 25; will reopen at 9 a.m. on Dec. 26
  • County Parks: gates closing at 5 p.m. on Dec. 24 and closed Dec. 25
  • Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) facility and HazWagon: closed Dec. 24 — 25; HHW facility open 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Dec. 26; Hazwagon closed on Dec. 26
  • Landfill: open until 2 p.m. on Dec. 24; closed on Dec. 25
  • Public Libraries: closing at 5 pm on Dec. 23, will remain closed on Dec. 24 — 26

City of Wilmington
The City of Wilmington will be closed starting Dec. 24 — Dec. 26. This is for all city offices and things will resume as normal on Friday, Dec. 27.

Carolina Beach
Early closures at Carolina Beach start Monday and are as follows.

  • Monday, Dec. 23 — offices will close early at 1p.m.
  • Tuesday, Dec — offices closed all-day
  • Wednesday, Dec. 25 — offices closed all-day
  • Thursday, Dec. 26 — offices closed all-day

Kure Beach
Town Hall will be closed Tuesday, Dec. 24 — Thursday, Dec. 26 for the Christmas Holiday. Garbage and recycling pick up for Tuesday will be delayed. 

Wrightsville Beach
The Town’s offices will be closed Dec. 24 — 26, trash collection will be delayed as well (remember, for a full list of trash schedules be sure to check out the supplemental story).

CFPUA
CFPUA offices will be closed Dec. 24 — 26, payments can still be made online.

Brunswick County

Brunswick County
The Brunswick County Government will be closed from Dec. 24 — 26. This includes local libraries as well.

Leland
Town offices are closed in Leland from Dec. 24 — 26.

Pender County

Government offices will be closed Dec. 25 — 27 and will reopen the following Monday.

All the Pender County Convenience Sites will close at 3 p.m. Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, and will remain closed through Christmas Day, Dec. 25. ALL locations will be open on Dec. 26 and ALL locations will resume their NORMAL operating hours beginning Dec. 27.
