WILMINGTON — The City of Wilmington is moving its Celebrate Downtown event from Friday, Oct. 30, to Friday, Nov. 6, the event’s previously designated rain date.

The city said the rescheduling is due to several events happening nearby on the same date.

Celebrate Downtown, to be held at Riverfront Park, is an opportunity for the community to learn more about city projects and investments, meet staff and share ideas on the city’s future. The public can enjoy food trucks, Halloween treats, lawn games, music, tree giveaways from Alliance for Cape Fear Trees, police and fire vehicles on display, and activities for all ages.

While the date is changing, the purpose of the celebration remains the same: highlighting downtown’s progress, showcasing what’s ahead, and bringing the community together for a free, family-friendly event.

The format will be the same on the new date:

  • 4 p.m.: Free parking opens in the Skyline Center South lot, at the corner of Nutt and Brunswick streets
  • 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.: Explore City projects
  • 6:45 p.m.: “Hocus Pocus” will be played on the big screen at Riverfront Park (blankets or low chairs less than 9 inches high are encouraged). Popcorn to be provided.
