WILMINGTON — The Wilmington Police Department have released the identity of a man killed on Sunday morning.
Police confirmed the victim was Corporal Edwin Estrada, of the United States Marine Corps. The fatal shooting is still being investigated.
According to the Police Department, 27-year-old Estrada of Jacksonville was found Sunday morning, after police responded to 273 N. Front St. around 6:15 a.m. Officers found Estrada, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Officials at Camp Lejeune did not respond to calls and emails earlier in the day, asking if any personnel were missing from the base, or if camp officials had any knowledge of the shooting. The officer on duty explicitly denied the base was missing any personnel, but declined to comment further.
Police declined to say if there were any suspects at large or in custody. Spokeswoman Jennifer Dandron said the shooting was an “isolated incident,” and that there was no concern of an at-large gunman.
