Fans of Wake N Bake Donuts who don’t live near Pleasure Island will be glad to know the popular Carolina Beach spot has opened its downtown Wilmington location at 114 Princess St.
Though much smaller in size (just 600 sq. ft., according to co-owner Danny Tangredi) and offering only take out service, the Wilmington shop will provide all the same tasty offerings as the original store.
“We got a commercial kitchen in Carolina Beach so we can double our production,” Tangredi said. “All of our products will be baked there and then shipped out, first to the Carolina Beach store and then downtown.”

According to Tangredi, each store will receive about three shipments a day. As with the original location, the downtown store will close once they are sold out of all products. On Friday, the store’s first day of business, they were sold out of everything except glazed donuts by 9:45 a.m. (after opening at 7:30 a.m.) and had just one more shipment coming.
“Our hours here will be a little different than Carolina Beach,” said Tangredi, who added that they were okay with closing earlier in the day as they plan to reopen later at night to catch people looking for something to eat after leaving the bars.
If Friday’s soft opening (which was not advertised other than through Wake N Bake’s social media sites) is an indication, customers wanting a Wake N Bacon or any of the business’ signature donuts should arrive as early as possible.
“We didn’t really expect a lot of people, and there was never a line out the door, but we we’ve been steady the whole morning,” Tangredi said. “If we have to close at 10 a.m. because we’re sold out, I think we’d be okay with that.”
