Man charged with second-degree murder for Normandy Drive shooting

WILMINGTON — New Hanover County sheriff deputies responded to a call about a reported shooting on Sunday, and one man has been charged.

Upon arrival on June 21, officers found a man with a gunshot wound lying in the driveway of 226 Normandy Drive. Emergency medical services and deputies performed life saving measures on the man before he was transported to Novant Health, where he succumbed to his wounds. The victim has not yet been named. 

The suspect, Carlos Lazo Toruno, was arrested shortly after; he matched the description provided to deputies on the scene. Toruno has been charged with second-degree murder and is currently being held in the New Hanover County Detention Center without bond.
