WILMINGTON — UNCW Head Coach Mark Scalf has announced his team’s schedule for the 2017 season, and it’s highlighted by a home-and-home series with reigning national champion Coastal Carolina, a trip to Ole Miss and 32 home games.
“Putting together a challenging schedule is a priority for our program,” said Scalf, who enters his 26th season as head coach at UNCW. “Every weekend series and mid-week game is one that will help us get better for the following week.”
The non-conference schedule continues to be a strong one the Seahawks, who host their annual Hughes Bros. Challenge (Feb. 17-19) with George Mason, VMI and Appalachian State and round out the season-opening round robin at Brooks Field.
The Seahawks head to Oxford, Miss., for three games (Feb. 24-26) with Ole Miss. Overall, the schedule has 13 games against teams that played in the 2015 NCAA regionals.
A home-and-home series with N.C. State, East Carolina and Coastal Carolina account for six of those games. Both East Carolina and Coastal Carolina reached the super regionals last season. When UNCW hosts the Chanticleers, it will be the first time it’s hosted a defending national champion.
“We have a great fan base, one that is passionate about their Seahawks and college baseball,” Scalf added. “I feel this will be another exciting schedule for them to come out a support us.”
Other non-conference home games include Florida Gulf Coast, Longwood and VCU. The matchups against Longwood and Florida Gulf Coast will be the first-ever meeting between the programs. UNCW and North Carolina will only play once this season and that game will be in Chapel Hill.
Brooks Field and UNCW will host the CAA Championship Tournament on May 25-28. Brooks Field will host its 13th conference championship tournament. Click here for the complete 2017 UNCW Baseball schedule.
