The community is invited to honor the life and memory of a South Brunswick cheerleader killed in a crash near the school on Wednesday.
A “celebration of life” for 18-year-old Lily Beatini will be held at South Brunswick High School’s gym at 6 p.m. Friday, according to Brunswick County Schools Spokeswoman Jessica Swencki.
Beatini, of Oak Island, was killed in a crash Wednesday morning while she was driving to school. According to Boiling Spring Lakes Police Chief Brad Shirley, the wreck happened at about 10 a.m. on N.C. 87 near Cougar Road, which leads to the entrance of the high school.
Beatini was a cheerleader and member of the high school’s lacrosse team, according to Swencki. She was a senior at the school who would have graduated on June 11. Those attending the ceremony Friday are asked to wear “Cougar Blue” in her honor.
The celebration is anticipated to last an hour and will be concluded by a release of balloons in the school’s courtyard, Swencki said. In lieu of flowers, Beatini’s family requests contributions be made to a memorial scholarship that will be established in Lily’s name.
Donations should be made payable to the “South Brunswick High School Athletic Booster Club” and can be dropped off or mailed to the school at 280 Cougar Drive, Southport, NC 28461.
A Go Fund Me account has also been set up to help Beatini’s family offset funeral expenses. According to the fund page, along with being an athlete, Beatini was also a representative for the Student Government Association and a member of the National Honor Society. She was recently accepted and was planning on attending the University of Connecticut in the fall.
As of Thursday afternoon, the GoFundMe page raised more than $2,600 by 30 people in just two hours. The goal is to raise $15,000 for her funeral fund. Click here to visit and donate to the the “Love for Lily” fund.
