WILMINGTON — Prominent Texas rockers ZZ Top return to the Port City this September, this time performing at the intimate Greenfield Lake Amphitheater.
Formed in Houston in 1969, ZZ Top is known for their Texas blues-rock, marked by the group’s signature long beards and sunglasses. The trio will arrive at GLA on Sept. 18, with tickets on presale to Live Nation All Access members — no code needed — on Thursday, April 23, at 10 a.m.
Guitarist and founder Billy F. Gibbons, a noted “Texas gearhead” who customizes American vintage cars and guitars, led the group with Dusty Hill and Frank Beard for 50 years. Elwood Francis — Hill’s longtime guitar technician — joined the band in 2021, upon Hill’s request, before his death, that Francis replace him in the group.
The group has been inspired by Muddy Waters and Led Zeppelin and released 15 studio albums — and more than 45 singles, including “Sharp Dressed Man,” “Pearl Necklace” and “Legs.”
They won multiple MTV Awards for their music videos in the 1980s and were inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.
