WILMINGTON — Michael Townsend Jones, of Wilmington, North Carolina, passed away on April 18, 2026. He was born on September 17, 1965, in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Michael graduated from Southeast Guilford High School and went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of North Carolina Wilmington in 1988. He built a life centered around friendship, loyalty, and a deep appreciation for the people closest to him. After college, Wilmington became home—a place where he cultivated lifelong friendships, embraced coastal living, and created a life filled with connection, laughter, and style.
Michael had a passion for beauty and an eye that would spot what others missed. Passionate and fun-loving, he could charm and converse with anyone. He loved gin martinis, travel, and had a natural appreciation for style and the finer details. He also had a gift for making a house a home and was a gracious host and entertainer.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Jones, and his lifelong partner, Russell J. Labelle.
Michael is survived by his mother, Freda Townsend Jones Thompson; his sister, Kay Jones and her wife, Laura Wrenn; many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly; and a tight circle of close friends who will miss him deeply.
A private celebration of life will be held.
