WILMINGTON — Cape Fear Community College welcomes gospel and country group The Oak Ridge Boys this August.
Tickets go on sale this week to the group’s Celebrating Route 66 Tour on Friday, Aug. 7, at 7:30 p.m.
The Oak Ridge Boys have become renowned for their four-part harmonies and earned Grammy, Dove, County Music Association, and American Country Music awards. They released varied hits, including a dozen charting at No. 1 such as 1981’s “Elvira” and more than 30 Top Ten songs.
Live, they’re known to bring high energy to fans.
“We’re not willing to rest on our laurels,” baritone singer William Lee Golden said in a release. “That gets boring. As a group, we do things constantly to challenge ourselves, to try to do something different or better than the last time we did it.”
Golden is joined by Duane Allen, William Lee Golden, Richard Sterban, and new tenor Ben James, releasing songs like “Bobbie Sue,” “Dream On,” “Thank God For Kids,” and “American Made.”
Originally from Knoxville, Tennessee, the group has collaborated with legendary artists including Johnny Cash, Ray Charles, Paul Simon, Billy Ray Cyrus, and Waylon Jennings. Oak Ridge Boys were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2015.
Tickets go on sale to Wilson Center members on Wednesday, April 22, 10 a.m., and to the general public on Thursday, April 23, 10 a.m.
