The Agenda: Meetings in local government this week

City council meets for an agenda review on Monday morning followed by its regular meeting Tuesday night, where it will take up Brooklyn Arts District social district again, among other items. (Port City Daily/Shea Carver)

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Every Monday Port City Daily will share upcoming government and community meetings around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, it will be included, too.

Monday, April 20

Wilmington City Council meets at 8:30 a.m. in City Hall at the Skyline Center for an agenda review meeting to preface Tuesday’s regular meeting; it can be streamed here.

New Hanover County Board of Commissioners will meet at 9 a.m. in the New Hanover County Historic Courthouse, 24 N Third St. The meeting is streamed here and the agenda includes 

  • Resolution related to for NHC Schools planned general obligation bond
  • Resolution consideration of the Bryan property sale and agreement

The Carolina Beach Town Council will host a special meeting at 8 a.m. in Council Chambers to go into closed session regarding the litigation and discussions with Carolina Beach Holdings LLC. 

The Kure Beach Town Council will host a budget workshop at 1 p.m. in Council Chambers. The agenda includes finalizing the 2026-2027 budget to be presented for May. Meetings can be listened to afterward here.

The Kure Beach Town Council will host a regular meeting at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers. The agenda includes presentations on National Safe Boating Week and mosaic totems, text amendments to UDO chapters 13 and 14, updates on the Fort Fisher Blvd & K Avenue Intersection Improvement Project, and discussions about the town brochure and sewer management plan. The Brunswick County Board of Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m., 30 Government Center Drive in Bolivia. The agenda includes review of letters to be sent to state lawmakers expressing a desire to regulate open burning and opposition to current downzoning limitations within Senate Bill 382. Also, included is consideration to introduce the general obligation School Bond Order and schedule a public hearing for May 18. The meeting will livestream here

The Pender County Board of Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m., 805 South Walker Street in Burgaw. The agenda includes continued discussion on the 2026 property revaluation, along with consideration of approval of the FY 2025-2027 Housing Administrative Plan for the Housing Choice Voucher program. The meeting will livestream here

The Leland Town Council will hold a special meeting at 6 p.m. in the Leland Town Hall. The agenda includes presentations from Visit NC, as well as the Leland Tourism Development Board and Parks and Recreation. The meeting will livestream here.

The Pender County Board of Education will have a special budget workshop at 9 a.m. at the Dr. Katherine Herring Resource Center located at 798 US HWY 117 in Burgaw. The public will not be allowed to speak and a portion of the meeting may be in closed session. The meeting will be broadcast on the PCS YouTube channel. A special panel hearing will be held at 2:30 p.m. regarding student appeals, so it will be held in closed session.

Tuesday, April 21

The Oak Island Town Council will host a special meeting at 9 a.m. in Council Chambers. Meetings can be viewed here and here. An agenda was not posted by press.

Brunswick County Board of Elections will meet at 2 p.m. in Commissioners’ Chambers, 30 Government Center Dr NE. The meeting can be streamed here and the agenda includes a voter challenge and director’s report.

Wilmington City Council meets at 6:30 p.m. in City Hall at the Skyline Center. The meeting can be streamed here and the agenda includes:

  • An ordinance making the Brooklyn Arts Social District every Saturday instead of two Saturdays monthly
  • Ordinance appropriating $3.4 million to prepay remainder due on the 2023B Taxable Variable Rate Loan for the Skyline Center purchase
  • Resolution to purchase up to 25 police vehicles from Mobile Communications America of Mooresville, NC for $440,091

Wednesday, April 22

The Bald Head Island Village Council will host a special meeting at 9 a.m. in the Multipurpose Room of the Department of Public Safety Building to review the Surety Agreement with Whitney Blair Custom Homes, LLC and the FY26-27 Budget. Meetings can be joined via Zoom here.

The Town of Topsail Beach Planning Board will meet at 10 a.m. in the Topsail Beach Town Hall. The agenda includes discussion over proposed changes to the Unified Development Ordinance regarding duties of the planning board. The meeting will livestream here

Thursday, April 23

The Oak Island Town Council will host a special meeting at 9 a.m. in Council Chambers. Meetings can be viewed here and here. An agenda was not posted by press.

The Leland Town Council will meet at 6 p.m. in the Leland Town Hall for a presentation on voting districts from the Cape Fear Council of Government. The meeting will livestream here

The Wrightsville Beach Board of Adjustment will host a special meeting to hold an appeal hearing for the Commodore Club at 5 p.m. in Council Chambers. Meetings can be viewed after the fact here.

The Cape Fear Public Transportation Authority meeting takes place on Thursday, April 23, 12:30 p.m., at Forden Station, 505 Cando St. Anyone is welcome to attend; an agenda was not posted by press.

Cape Fear Public Utility Authority Sustainability Committee will meet at 2 p.m. in the Jordan Conference Room, 235 Government Center Dr. After at 3 p.m. the Long Range Planning Committee meets; the agenda includes information on updating development service fees for FY27 and drought conditions update. 

UNCW Board of Trustees will meet April 23-24 at UNCW’s Burney Center. The board will hear from varied committees all day Thursday, 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., followed by the board meeting on Friday at 9:30 a.m. in ballroom C.
