Mary Meloni, 98

Mary M. Meloni (Wilmington Funeral & Cremation)

WILMINGTON — Mary Meloni, an embodiment of relentless effort, and profound love and devotion, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2026, in Wilmington, NC, at the age of 98.

Born in Bedford Hills, New York, on November 5, 1927, to her loving parents, Joseph Totino and Filomena Rizzo Totino, with Mary being the fifth of eight children.

What began as a simple joy of creating dishes at home ultimately evolved naturally into a career. Mary devoted many years of her life as a head chef/dietician at Rippowam Cisqua School, located in Bedford, NY. Her dedication to her profession is a testament to her zeal for service and her unyielding commitment to the well-being of others.

In 1996, Mary and Amerigo moved to Wilmington driven by the desire to be reunited with family. Mary led a vibrant and active life filled with hobbies that she thoroughly enjoyed. She was an avid reader, card player and line dancer, activities that brought her immense joy and happiness. She loved being with her family and friends most, and she was often the heart of the party, spreading warmth and laughter wherever she went. Up until the very end, Mary was as sharp as a tack, delighting loved ones and friends with an ability to remember things no one else could. A testament to a life well-lived and mind well-used. Her legacy of love and dedication lives on in the hearts of those who knew her. She will be dearly missed, but her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those she left behind.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her devoted husband, Amerigo Meloni, and her seven siblings. Mary’s memory will be forever cherished by her loving daughter Susan Sielecki and her loving partner and anchor, Bruce Baker, many nieces, and nephews who fondly remember her strength, resilience, and the joy she brought into their lives.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Lower Cape Fear Life Center team, her nurse, Carol, aide Brianna, and volunteer Rose for their gentle care and compassionate presence, making a difficult time bearable. They truly walked beside us.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mary’s memory may be made to Lower Cape Fear Life Care Hospice.

The void left by Mary’s departure can never be filled, but the love and memories she left behind will forever be cherished.
