HAMPSTEAD — Patty Jane Wolf, age 91, of Hampstead, North Carolina died on November 12, 2025, at the Brookdale Memory Care Center in Monroe, North Carolina.
Patty was born in Cabell County, West Virginia on February 9, 1934, to the late Basil Reed and the late Mabel Hoosier Reed. She was the second born of four daughters. After high school graduation, she was employed by the telephone company.
At the age of 26 years, her sister and brother-in-law introduced her to Roger Wolf, a Marine and young widower with four little girls, ages 1 through 9 years. Sparks flew, and they ignited a deep love and commitment to family that lasted for more than 60 years. They married on her birthday, February 9, 1961, and shortly thereafter Patty became the adoptive mother of the four girls: Donna, Nancy, Debra, and Terry. Roger’s work required frequent travel, and frequent moves.
By their 10th anniversary, they had lived in four states and two countries. Patty was the heart, and the backbone, of the family. She became a master at packing, moving, settling into a new community, making new friends. At her death, she owned no fewer than 5 address books: she never lost track of a friend made along the way. There wasn’t a lot of time for hobbies, but she always found time to paint. Two of her works, painted to celebrate the birth of her great grandchild, Mason Alexander, hang in his home today.
Patty and Roger lived in Hampstead, North Carolina for more than 30 years after retirement. Their holiday parties were an annual event. She organized family reunions to celebrate Roger’s birthday every five years. These weeklong events on Topsail Island brought family from across the country, where everyone had time to catch up, see how the children and grandchildren had grown, meet new partners and make new friends. She was an Associate Member of the Hampstead, North Carolina Marine Corps League Det 1321, of which she and Roger were devoted members. Though he always had to remind her to bring her “cover” to the weekly breakfasts, this brotherhood sustained them both, and its members remain like family today.
Patty was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Wolf, and two daughters, Debra Lynn and Terry Lee, as well as by sisters Peggy and Joyce and brother Jack. She is survived by daughters Donna Warren and Nancy Jean Linde, grandchildren Elizabeth Warren, Neil Warren, Austin Whitt Joseph Whitt, and great grandchild Mason Alexander.
Memorial Service will be held at Andrews Mortuary/Hampstead Chapel 17730 Hwy 17N, Hampstead, NC. 28443 on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at 11:00 AM.
Donations may be made in her name to Disabled American Veterans, or flowers are gratefully accepted.
