WILMINGTON — Clarimae Wood, at 100 years old, passed away on 25 September 2025 at Trinity Grove Nursing Home, Wilmington, NC. She was born on 24 March 1925 to Donald and Letha Petree.
Clarimae grew up in Clarence, Missouri, with two older brothers, Dale and Delos Petree. She married Carl A Wood on 28 October 1945 after Carl returned home from WWII, and they had one daughter, Carlene. After Carl established his career in retail, the family moved from Missouri and lived in various locations: Michigan, Illinois Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia. Upon retirement they settled back in Macon, Missouri. Regardless of where they lived, they were proud, faithful members of the United Methodist Church and were particularly active in the Macon Missouri United Methodist Church.
Throughout the many places they lived, Clarimae shared special memories of friends and family members. Two memories are especially notable. The Celebration of their 50th Wedding Anniversary in Macon, Missouri on 28 October 1995. And, in June 2010, she enjoyed a family trip to Paris, France, and toured the beaches of Normandy. Clarimae, Carl, Carlene, and Herman visited several sites in France where Carl served during WWII.
Clarimae was a proud wife and mother, who is survived by her daughter, Carlene Holly Ratcliffe, and her husband, Herman Ratcliffe, of Leland, NC. In addition, she is survived by her nephew, David Petree. Clarimae is preceded in death by her husband, Carl, her siblings and their spouses, and her parents.
Services will be held at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery, Jacksonville, Missouri, where she will reunite with her husband, Carl, at 2:00 PM on 28 October 2025, their wedding anniversary.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any memorials be made to Tunnel to Towers, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306 to support wounded veterans.
