WILMINGTON — Karl Henderson Busick, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2025, in Wilmington, North Carolina, at the age of 76. Born on September 24, 1948, in Wake County, North Carolina, he lived a life marked by dedication to family, community, and country.
Karl proudly served his nation in the United States Coast Guard from 1968 to 1972, embodying the values of service and duty throughout his life. After his military service, he graduated from N.C. State. He began a career as a professional forester, initially cruising timber and eventually joining Carolina Power & Light, which later became Progress Energy. Karl dedicated 25 years to the company, retiring in 2011, having made a significant impact with his expertise and commitment.
As a long-time, faithful member of Winter Park Baptist Church, he served in many ministries. “Mr. Karl” was loved by generations of children and youth where he served as teacher, bus driver, and chaperone on many adventures and mission trips. He loved ushering and greeting members and visitors alike. He always made a point of getting to know visitors and making them feel welcome.
He loved the outdoors. Hunting, fishing, or just walking through the woods made him happy. He was a member of the Buccaneer Gun Club and harbored a lifelong interest in gun collecting. He loved to travel both near and far with Judy, the love of his life. He also looked forward to vacationing with long time friends several times a year.
Karl was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Alex Busick and Eleanor Tilley Busick. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 55 years, Judy Bradshaw Busick; two loving daughters, Tricia Busick of Fuquay Varina, and Karen Busick Halsey and her husband Josh of Raleigh; and two treasured grandchildren, Maya Halsey and Luke Halsey, who brought tremendous joy to his life. Karl was an only child but was surrounded throughout his life with many cousins, classmates and friends that he loved as brothers and sisters.
Karl Henderson Busick will be remembered for his steadfast faith, love for his family, and unwavering commitment to his community and country. His memory will be cherished by all who were touched by his love and kindness.
