WILMINGTON — Barbara Murray Donald, born on March 8, 1938, in Hookerton, NC, peacefully passed away on April 30, 2025, in Wilmington, NC, at the age of 87. Her life, rich with love, family, and creativity, touched all who knew her.

Barbara made her home in Kinston, NC as a dedicated housewife to her children and family before embarking on careers as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in a local Baptist hospital and then as medical exchange operator. Through her work, she met countless individuals who were drawn to her warm spirit and genuine kindness. Later in life, she became a waitress, to stay active and connected in her community. She was a friend and confidante to those she served.

An artist at heart, Barbara had a profound passion for art, specifically acrylic painting. She found immense joy in capturing the beauty of landscapes, seascapes, and flowers on canvas. Her artistic pursuits brought her peace and fulfillment, allowing her to express herself in vibrant colors and forms.

In addition to her love of painting, Barbara was an avid reader. She enjoyed immersing herself in romance novels and cookbooks, which inspired her culinary endeavors. Known for her delicious cooking and baking, she delighted family and friends with her creations, making every meal a cherished gathering.

Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved parents, John Harvey and Ethel Parris, both of her spouses, Jimmy Murray and Harry Donald, her sister Becky, and her brother Marion. Her memory will be forever cherished by her surviving family: her children, James D. (Jacinta) Murray, Diane Toombs, Doug Murray, and Donna “Darby” (Brad) Anderson; her sister, Jean Brinnel; her nine grandchildren; and her 21 great-grandchildren. Barbara’s family was her pride and joy, and she cherished the time spent with each of them.

Faith was an integral part of Barbara’s life, and she was a devoted member of the Baptist faith. Her kind heart extended beyond people to her faithful canine companion, Buffy, who brought her much happiness over the years.

Services are being planned to honor Barbara’s life and will be held in the Kinston, NC area. In remembering Barbara, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of love, art, and devotion. Her legacy will continue in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her.
