Anna (Nancy) Munro Symmes, 97

Anna (Nancy) Munro Symmes (Andrews Mortuary and Crematory)

WILMINGTON — Anna (Nancy) Munro Symmes died April 9, 2025 at age 97 from natural causes after a long healthy life.

She is survived by daughters Carolyn de Haro and Nancy Griffin (husband Warren) of Raleigh, as well as five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

She was pre-deceased by her husband of forty-one years, John Symmes. Together they enjoyed spending time with friends at various clubs around Wilmington including the Yacht Club, Surf Club and the Cape Fear Country Club where Nancy often enjoyed playing Bridge. They also enjoyed hosting family and friends at gatherings in their home. One of the highlights of their year was the annual L’ariosa Ball held by the German Club at Cape Fear Country Club where she always enjoyed dressing in a beautiful evening gown.

Nancy was active in the Cape Fear Garden Club where she won ribbons for flowers cultivated in her greenhouse. Her personal garden was featured in the 1974 Azalea Festival Garden Tour and she often assisted with hosting duties in other gardens on the tours. She was also active in the Sorosis Club where she served as President from1974-1976. A commemorative brick has been placed in the memorial garden to honor her service.

The family is thankful for the time they had with her. She will be remembered for her humor and clever observances that kept everyone laughing. She will be greatly missed.

We would also like to thank the staff at Cadence of North Raleigh for their kindness and care for Nancy over the last few years

A committal service will be held in the St. Francis Gardens of St. James Church at a future date and time to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the church or charity of your choice.

Condolences may be shared with the family here.
