Georgiann Martino George (Wilmington Funeral & Cremation)

WILMINGTON — Georgiann Martino George, 82, of Wilmington, NC passed away on Friday, February 14, 2025, after a period of declining health.

Georgiann was born on October 11, 1942 in Ravenna, OH to the late George and Edith Argante Martino. After her marriage to Arthur Fredrick George, she enjoyed life as a homemaker, making her home a warm and welcoming place for both her family and friends. Two years ago, Georgiann and her husband, Fred, moved to Wilmington, NC from North Myrtle Beach, SC, where they had lived for 18 years, to be near their daughter, Christine, and her family.

While living in Wilmington, Georgianne became a member of Myrtle Grove Baptist Church. Her interests were varied. She loved to crochet, making hundreds of blankets for both family and people who were ill, enjoyed all types of card games and loved playing Mahjong.

Georgiann and Fred, her husband and best friend for 50 years, loved to travel, with Italy being her favorite place to visit. Georgiann was a Christian woman and never had a harsh word toward anyone. She was caring and compassionate to anyone she met. Georgiann made friends easily and was known to brighten a room with her presence. She loved her grandchildren and they were her heart. Most importantly, Georgiann was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister and she was a friend to all. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

Surviving is her husband, Arthur Fredrick George; one daughter, Christine Marie Layton (Brandon) of Wilmington, NC; five grandchildren: Harper and Georgia Layton and George, Davis and Abby Taliaferro; one brother, Jon Martino (Deborah) of Ravenna, OH; one sister, Deborah Lambright (Dennis) of Columbus, OH; a stepdaughter, Michelle Taliaferro (Chip) of Leesburg, VA and a number of nieces, nephews and extended family members.
