From there, he went on to attend Frostburg State University and then in 1975 began his coaching and teaching career in Prince George’s County. He served as the Defensive Coordinator on 3 championship teams at his alma mater, Crossland, in the late 70s. In 1980, after moving his family to Charles County, Lloyd became the head football coach at La Plata High School and quickly added the title of Head Softball Coach. He served at La Plata until 1988 before leaving to become the Executive Director of the Joe Gibbs Youth For Tomorrow New Life Center.
After leaving Youth For Tomorrow, Lloyd would complete work on his PhD, becoming one of the first people in the country to achieve a doctorate in Organizational Leadership from Regents University. This eventually led him back to Southern Maryland, where he served as the Director of Grace Brethren Christian School in Waldorf, starting in 1999 until his retirement in 2012. During this time, he also proudly served as an assistant coach for his son, Scott’s, championship football teams at Bowie High and Lackey High School.
Known to his grandchildren as “Paw-Paw”, his greatest joy in retirement was watching and cheering for his grandchildren as they competed in various sports. He also enjoyed traveling the world with Tina on their many excursions.
Lloyd will be greatly missed by all of those whom he influenced as a father, grandfather, brother in law, uncle, teacher, coach and administrator. The countless lives that were changed by his influence will be his ultimate legacy.
