WILMINGTON — Joel Thomas Deschamps, age 65 of Wilmington, NC, passed away on the 5th of September 2024 surrounded by loved ones at Novant Health/New Hanover Regional Medical Center of Wilmington.
Joel was born on May 16, 1959 to the late Wilfred and Joan Deschamps in Plattsburgh, NY.
Joel is also preceded in death by his cherished wife and best friend of over 30 years Eleanor Mae Deschamps.
He led a successful career as a locksmith owning and operating Joel’s Lock and Key in Wilmington, NC. He was also an entrepreneur who owned several bars in the Wilmington community. Joel valued time with family and friends above all and frequently hosted many special events and gatherings.
He is survived by his beloved children, Eric Nous (Julie), Amanda Hunter (Jen), Kori Deschamps, and Brian Deschamps (Jenna); seven grandchildren, Victor Nous, Ava Nous, William Hunter, Addison Hunter, Grady Deschamps, Ella Deschamps, and Owen Deschamps; and one great grandchild, Evelyn Nous; one brother, James Deschamps. He also had one beloved niece, Jackie Deschamps (Steven) as well as close friends. Joel also enjoyed the companionship of his beloved Maltipoo, Myla.
Visitation for Family and Friends will begin at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, September 12, 2024 with a Celebration of Life Ceremony following at 6 p.m. at the Wilmington Funeral & Cremation Chapel.
