WILMINGTON — Helen Tan McCartha of Wilmington, North Carolina passed away on September 8, 2022 at home with her loving husband of 36 years, Gerry, by her side.
Helen was born in Qin Dao near Beijing, China to the late Zhang Shu Yi (mother) and Tan Shu Tong (father).
Helen is survived by Gerry and her five children Margaret, Peter, Eleanor, Susie and Elizabeth from her first marriage to Andrew Comber, as well as by her 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Helen lived in many countries and states including Hong Kong, England, Portugal, Korea and Canada before finally settling in Wilmington North Carolina.
Helen loved her golf and had many memorable golf trips with Gerry to Scotland and Ireland. Helen was also a fearsome bridge player, being awarded in 2020 Distinguished Life Masters status. Helen was always kind and gentle, and had the ability to make everyone around her feel special and important. Helen will be deeply missed by her husband Gerry, and her family and friends.
A funeral service for Helen will be held at 2pm, Monday, October 3, 2022 at Andrews Market Street Chapel, 1617 Market Street in Wilmington.
There will be a reception following the service at the family’s home: 7176 Arbor Oaks Drive in Wilmington.
Burial will be private.
