WILMINGTON — Dorothy Helen Montouri, age 90, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2022, surrounded by loving family and friends at the Davis Community at Porter’s Neck in Wilmington, NC.
Dedicated wife, mother, beloved sister, and a most delightful grandmother, Mrs. Montouri was born to the parents of the late John Schober and Sophie Jonke. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Frederick Montouri and her sister, Marion Mazzoni of Elmhurst, New York. Dorothy is survived by her children, Robert Brian Montouri and Denise Montouri Futch both of Wilmington, NC, along with son-in-law, Corey A. Futch. Her stepchildren include Brett Montouri of San Diego, CA and Gina Montouri of Denver, CO.
Of her greatest joys are her seven beautiful grandchildren: Austen Charles Townsel Montouri, Marianna Sofia Octavia Montouri, Lillie Catherine Futch, Corbin John Peter Montouri, and Sarah Marie Futch. Step grandchildren include Chelsea Brass Rosenfield (David) of St. Petersburg, FL and Ella Ruth Montouri of Washington, D.C.
After graduating high school from Saint Monica School in New York City, NY, Dorothy went on to pursue a steady career in modeling with the elite Ford Modeling Agency in New York City. She met her husband, Charles with friends at a beach outing in Coney Island, NY. Handsome and charming, “Chuck” quickly fell in love with the beautiful Dorothy, and they were married in 1963. They lived in the Stony Brook, Long Island, NY area until 1979, after which Charles’ work as a Reference Librarian relocated them to Salisbury, NC. Eventually in 1981, they moved to their permanent residence in Wilmington, NC, to be closer to the ocean.
A devout Catholic, Mrs. Montouri led a spiritually rich and full life. Outside of Dorothy’s devotion to her faith, her talents included being a nurturing soul, a loyal friend, a wonderful listener, and her children’s and grandchildren’s biggest cheerleader. As a resourceful homemaker, she contributed to the household, as well as to charitable endeavors, by working as an office temporary and as the Office Manager at Land Management Group. Dorothy often showcased her talents as an avid gardener through the Hobby Greenhouse Gardening Club and was well known as an exceptional seamstress.
It was her enduring faith that enriched the communities she served with a sense of purpose and joy alike. Dorothy Montouri’s ability to light up a room with just a smile and her beauty will be missed by all that knew her. Yet, always remembered.
