WILMINGTON — Brenda Anita (Owens) Bartizek, age 80, lost her battle with cancer and passed away peacefully at her home in Wilmington, NC surrounded by her family on Monday, November 22, 2021.
She is survived by her loving husband for over 60 years, John Bartizek, and their children Theresa Bartizek of South Burlington, VT, Karen Pfountz (Greg Pfountz) of Wilmington, NC, and John M. Bartizek (Diana Bartizek) of Jacksonville, NC and two grandchildren Bridget Fletcher and Dylan Pfountz. She is also survived by her brother J.L. Owens of Cassatt, SC, her sister Frances Cousins of Goldsboro, NC, and her brother Dean Owens (Signa Owens) of Midlothian, VA, and several nieces and nephews. Brenda was predeceased by her parents, John L. Owens and Fannie Owens Dowdy, her brothers Stanley Owens and William Owens, and her sister Betty Jean Waterfield.
Brenda was born in Virginia Beach, VA. She and her husband raised their family in West Hartford, CT. After retirement from Aetna Insurance Co, she and John moved to Wilmington, NC in 1998 to be closer to her family. They enjoyed many years of sunshine and surf at Wrightsville Beach. At home, she enjoyed her fragrant roses and colorful gardens. She was very fond of hummingbirds and looked forward to seeing so many of them come to her feeder every day. Brenda loved rainy days and could be found on the porch watching and listening to the falling rain and breathing in the fresh rain air.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at 2:30p.m. located at Oleander Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 306 Bradley Drive, Wilmington, NC 28409. In lieu of flowers, feel free to make a donation to Lower Cape Fear Life Care Foundation, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401-7335, or an organization of your choice.
