WILMINGTON — Frank G. Ahern, 86, died unexpectedly and peacefully at home on Friday, September 18, 2026.
Frank was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. Frank served his country in the US Navy and then went on to a successful career at IBM Corporation. After 30 years, Frank retired from IBM and shortly thereafter, moved to Wilmington, NC with his wife, Patricia. They were married just shy of 35 years (his ‘personal best’ as he liked to say).
Frank had many interests, including family, sports, boating and fishing, and reading. He and Patricia traveled extensively and always enjoyed visiting family in the Philadelphia area. His dog, Seamus, already misses him. He was a larger- than- life character and will be remembered by many for his stories, jokes and online cartoons.
Survivors include wife, Patricia his sons, Scott Ahern and wife Cindy, Michael Ahern and family, and favorite grandson, Eric, as well as brother-in-law James Mooney and wife Kathy, plus numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and numerous friends.
A Celebration of Life will be scheduled later in October in the Philadelphia area as well as in Wilmington.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Shriners Hospital or Colonial Capital Humane Society in his memory.
