WILMINGTON — Raymond Albert Justice Sr., 85, died Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family.
Raymond loved spending time with his family and his church family. He was a longtime deacon at Peace Baptist Church and enjoyed preparing Communion and helping out with whatever needed to be done for many years until his dementia prevented him from doing so.
He was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a longtime member of the Black River Hunting Club and the Pender County Bassmasters.
He was born April 15, 1933, in Currie to the late Isham Albert Justice and Thelmer Rae Morgan Justice.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Samantha Faye Justice; brother, Stephen Daniel (DeeDee) Justice; and two sisters, Eva Dora Justice Sikes and Ola Bell Justice.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Mamie Hollemon Justice; daughter, Karen Justice Pepper (Christopher); son, Raymond Albert Justice Jr. (Angela); grandchildren, Daniel Ray Pepper (Elizabeth), Michelle Pepper Batts (Brent), Sara Justice Shipman (Andrew) and Allison Rae Justice; great-grandchildren, Huston Lee Pepper, Grayson Christopher Pepper, Brayden Ray Justice-Mintz and Brantley Keith Shipman; and brother, Benjamin Pierce “Bennie” Justice.
The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, July 12, at Andrews Valley Chapel, 4108 South College Road. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, July 13, at Peace Baptist Church, 320 Military Cutoff Road, Wilmington, with the Rev. Rudy Shepard officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Riley’s Creek Memorial Cemetery, Rocky Point.
