Pender County poultry farm receives $156K grant from USDA

Of the $32 million the U.S. Department of Agriculture is doling out nationwide to area for its Rural Development FY 2022 Awards, a Pender County entity will benefit from an influx of funds.

Craig King Farms LLC will receive $156,040 to install a 332 kilowatt (kW) solar
array. A poultry farming operation, the grant will help the farm save $35,472 a year.

It will replace 507,478 kilowatt hours (kWh) annually, which could essentially save enough electricity to power 46 homes, according to a release from the USDA.

The money for the grants is culled from the Rural Energy for America Program, which was provided upward of $2 billion by the Inflation Reduction Act. Over a dozen North Carolina businesses received grants as well, which can be accessed here.
