Applications for municipalities and local governments to receive grant money in the 2022-2023 fiscal year are now open through the N.C. Division of Coastal Management (DCM).
Entities in the 20-county coastal area can apply for projects that begin Dec. 1, 2022, and are finished by June 2023.
Priority will be given to beach, shoreline, and water management projects centered on coastal resources, focused on improvements in intergovernmental coordination, needing targeted research and studies — i.e. development of local ordinances — or expanding education and outreach.
Projects not related to beach, shoreline, and water management can be proposed for non-prioritized funding.
The grant application must be emailed to the government entity’s local DCM District Planner by Monday, Oct. 17, 5 p.m.
DCM will determine awards based on funding; local governments are encouraged to include their local contribution in their FY 2022-23 budget.
They also must be willing to match at least 25% of the total project costs. Tier 1 counties or munis must match 10% of costs.
“At least half of the local contribution must be cash match; the remainder may be in-kind,” according to a release from DCM.
