WILMINGTON — After Republican school board candidate Janice Cavenaugh stepped away from the 2020 race a replacement has been announced, pastor, radio host, and PAG member Tony McGhee.
According to New Hanover County GOP Chairman Will Knect, McGhee was unanimously chosen by the county party’s executive committee and will appear on the ballot in November.
McGhee will be the third of three GOP candidates running for three open seats, joining Stephanie Kraybill and Pete Wildeboer. The spot opened up when Cavenaugh stepped down to help her family deal with the challenges of the upcoming school year.
Knecht said “we are thrilled to have a man of his stature, wide ranging community involvement, and passion for a kids and family first approach to education” joining the other GOP candidates on the 2020 ballot.
According to McGhee’s profile as a member of the Partnership Advisory Group (created to guide the hospital partnership or sale exploration):
Mr. McGhee is pastor of Liberty Bible Church, a LegalShield representative and host of The Tony McGhee Show podcast.
